The draw is out and it’s not looking bad for Roger. The first thing to look at is where Murray is, and he is in Nadal’s half. Check. For me Murray is the second favorite to win the tournament so we want him on the other side of Roger. Should they happen to meet it will be in the final, and Roger has already beaten Murray in two slam finals. So it’s preferable they meet in the finals rather than the semi’s. That way the past can come back to haunt Murray. This of course means that Murray is in Rafa’s half of the draw. Rafa has lost his last two meetings to Murray in hard court slams and was also routined by Murray in the Toronto semis. I think Murray will feel very good about his chances should they meet in the semis again. Of course neither of them are guaranteed a semi-final spot. Rafa has Nalbandian and Gulbis in his quarter, while the seeded Spaniards has always been his bunnies.

I like Nalbandian and he has a positive head-to-head against Rafa. He has also been playing well of late. I really hope he can make quarters, but if not then I hope for Gulbis. These two will make the most interesting match ups with Rafa. If any Spaniard plays Rafa it will just be another boring match. Looking at Murray’s draw, his eighth of the draw is pretty damn easy. In the quarters he meets Berdych who can be tricky but who has not been in the best of form of late. Or maybe Isner will make it through who is also a dangerous player. Nonetheless Rafa and Murray must be the favorites to go through in the top half. Moving into the bottom half, Djokovic has it tough. Not only has he got two very dangerous players in Fish and Baghdatis in his eighth of the draw, but he also has his master Roddick in his quarter.

For me this is the most open quarter of the draw. Anyone of Djokovic, Roddick, Fish, Baghdatis or even Davydenko if he cathces fire can come through there. Finally we get to Roger’s quarter of the draw. There are no significant threats in Roger’s eighth of the draw. Hewitt can play well but I don’t see Roger losing to him again. He will look forward to revenge after losing to Hewitt in Halle. The first possible threat for Roger is power hitter Soderling. That is if he comes through his eighth. Soderling hasn’t been looking very threatening on the US hard courts, but that could mean that he will make a good run at the US Open. We all know what a tough match he gave Roger last year at the US Open. Having said that, this will be another great chance for revenge for Roger after that French Open loss. That was clay and the much faster US Open surface will allow Roger to play much more attacking tennis.

It is a tough possible encounter because Roger has not convinced against the power hitters for some time now, but I definitely favor Roger taking into account his recent good form. Assuming Roger makes the semi’s, he will meet either Djokovic, Fish, Baghdatis, Roddick or Davydenko. These guys are all very beatable for him. As has been the case with all the other slams in 2010, Roger may have his toughest match in the quarters again. We will see. I don’t think there is anyone who could really threaten him in the semis. In the final my prediction is that Murray will be there. Murray will have gained confidence after the win over Roger in the final of Toronto, but I don’t think that will be enough. Roger’s preparation for the US Open has been perfect and we all know he is a different animal in the slams, not to mention the history him and Murray have in slams.

Roger will be very hard to stop.

Roger took part in a Nike exhibition event last night with Rafa, Maria Sharapova, Victoria Azarenka, John Mcenroe and other celebrities. He was wearing his dark blue outfit which will be his evening outfit.
