So what do you think? Personally I just love it. Grey is probably my favorite color, just like the background of my blog. I also like the yellow parts. Last year’s French Open outfit was also one of his best ever. I guess it makes sense that Roger leaves his best outfits for the fashion capitol of the world. Let’s hope he leaves his best tennis for it again this year too. I’m sure you are just as anxious as me to see Roger back in action. It is really becoming a long wait now, but we are almost there. I hear the Madrid draw will be out on Saturday when I will make my next post. I’m really excited for Roger’s clay court season!

  1. Hi Ruan,

Have to say this is one of his best outfits; I’d match this one with the one he wore at the US Open 2004 (minus the white shorts :-) .

Saw del Potro playing at Estoril today. I have to say I was impressed by his skill in the clay court. Maybe we should include him in the equation for the clay season instead of Murray.

    All best,
    Vasco

  2. One of the best outfits he will ever wear, I think. I’m definitely going to get the shirt. And it’s also the first time since the AO2008 that he’s worn black at a non-USO event. (Greyish/black/whatever).

  3. I also love this outfit. So classy. Estoril looks like a beautiful place. I think I’ll put it on my bucket list. Is it as nice as it looks?
Can’t wait for the Smurf tourney to start! Apparently the balls are bouncing lower…good for Roger.

The entire coast from Cascais to Lisbon is very beautiful, estoril included. The best part is that the courts of the Estoril Open are available year-round for public use and its just a 15 min train ride from downtown Lisbon. The only problem is the wind that can get quite strong especially when blowing from SW, which has been the case in the last couple of weeks.

  4. Hi Ru-an, love the outfit. However last year’s is even better; especially with awww… that finger wag!! Can’t wait for Roger – very excited but with some apprehension too: Which Roger shall we see?

  5. Hey ruan, really tough draw for Federer.
Raonic said that the bounce is low. Should be good for fed.
Nadal seems to hate it. While talking about the court, he made an underhanded remark about fed. He said the court would benefit players “who don’t have footwork well defined like federer”.
AS usual, he is trying his best to portray himself as the underdog. But, at the same time he is taking digs at fed now.

It wasn’t necessarily a dig at Roger. Everything can be interpreted as a dig. He may not have meant anything by it.

Actually what he said in his spanish interview was: “”Para algunos las ventajas son pelín mayores, jugadores con un servicio más potente, que no tienen el juego de piernas tan definido. Jugadores como Isner, Raonic, o para Federer es una pista que le va muy bien, favorece o premia el servicio más de lo habitual”, which translates “for some there is a bit of advantage, players with bigger serve that don’t have a clearly defined leg work. For players like Isner, Raonic or even Federer the surface is suitable, it favors or rewards the service more than usual”… So he is not saying that federer as poor defined footwork; that would be the most ridiculous thing to say; it wouldn’t even be offensive for Fed. Let’s not feed the controversy.

Thanks Vasco. That’s what I thought.

    Oh well, no issue.
I saw a translation of the interview in a couple of places that lead me to believe what i mentioned.
Anyway, bring on the blue clay.

  6. Why is Nadal such a big baby ? Complaining about the blue clay, the low signage, just shut up and play. He has an easy draw w/o Murray and Federer will have to slug out every match again. Novak has an easy draw too!Sheeeeesh! I guess this will force Roger to play his best tennis from start to finish. Go Fed!

  7. So…the drama queen Nadal just won so convincingly vs Davy that u won`t hear a word against the smurf color or the slippery court…
Was just reading comment in eurosport`s UK site about the game and saw this:

“Nadal called for the trainer when Federer was in control at Rome ’06, Monte Carlo ’07, ’08, Roland Garros ’06, ’07, ’11, Hamburg ’08. So you have to ask WHY is he so confident when on clay?” Can anyone confirm this?

Wow this guy besides pefect h2h with any player has a history of great mediacal breaks vs federer. I though it was only few times like this year toiler break in Indian Wells :-) hahah

I only feel sorry for Federer that this year for 1st and last time at least he commented the long time he takes between points. he may think he looks nicer not saying those things but reality is they cost him so many trophies in his career…
