That beautiful forehand we will be missing

There was a rumour going around that Roger would withdraw from Dubai, and as is the case with most rumours, they turned out to be true. Well I’m sure you are very disappointed with this news just as I am. This is now the second year in a row that he will be playing nothing between the Australian Open and Indian Wells, which is a 6 week stretch with no competitive tennis at all. This seems to be more and more the trend these days, and I bet the tournament organizers of Dubai is even more depressed than us Fedfanatics. For a second year in a row they have lost their biggest spectator puller in the tournament. This will also cost Roger valuable ranking points, but at least he won’t be losing any. Well I don’t know what else to tell you, other than the fact that this is really disappointing for me after already having waited 3 weeks to see him in action again.

Get well soon champ…

Ps. I just remembered that Roger was in Ethiopia, and I’m now wondering whether he didn’t pick up the lung infection while he was there. Africa is a dirty continent and I have picked up some pretty bad things there myself while I was playing tennis in Zimbabwe, Botswana and these kind of countries. I got very sick once from drinking the water in one of these countries, while in South Africa there is no problem with the water. Maybe Roger should think twice before he does any humanitarian work in Africa again. Maybe he should stick to South Africa where his foundation is based. And while he’s at it come play an exhibition for me :D

As you can see Roger will take his time with this and make sure he is peRFectly fine before he starts playing again. So it’s not even 100% sure he will play Indian Wells. Roger won’t jeopardize his health in the long run, unlike a certain someone…

  1. Darn it, hope this lung infection is not serious. Aiya, why withdraw – I was just stocking up my fridge with beer and chips for this week’s tennis. Another 3 more weeks of waiting :-(

Better leave that beer and chips for IW and Miami then :-)

  2. That was my immediate reaction when I read of Roger’s withdrawal in Dubai….his lung infection is due to his recent trip to Ethiopia. You described it, Ruan, you speak of experience. We could be wrong, but it sounds logical. Pray for complete recovery for Roger.

  3. What a pity!, he was playing so good,he knows what is the best for him to do.I believe he will be in IW. if not in Miami. Not to be in panic.
Ruan I know you like Delpo(even though is difficult to be a Fed fan and like his play)I´m going to tell you he said”I´m not at my best, that´s why i´m not playing”,he
hasn´t a wrist injury. He´s with different models in all gossip´s magazine,he seems to follow Gaudio, Nalby…
Not yet completely losen, sorry for you.

  4. Oh no. He might have become sick one his visit. You do not want to have problems with your lungs. I speak from personal experience. This could be serious.

  6. OK now I am super bored, no Fed is awful. Can you entertain us with an article of most irritating and entertaining commentator. Alternatively – Roger’s most arsenal shot to date aside from his famous FH.
