You’ve probably seen the video but it’s worth it to watch it again! Really funny stuff. I doubt Hollywood directors are exactly hunting these two down for their next movie. Funny things was that Roger probably sweat more during this than he does on the tennis court!
Back to the tennis, and Roger won his match yesterday after Denis Istomin retired after Roger was 5-2 ahead in the first set. Istomin stepped awkwardly on his ankle, he got it taped up, but still could hardly walk. It’s unfortunate for both Istomin and Roger, as I’m sure Roger could have used the match time, but at least he got 7 games in in the conditions. He looked pretty good until the match ended and came to the net quite often. Later today he will play against Philip Kohlschreiber who beat Falla in 3 sets. Roger have never lost to Kohlschreiber in 5 meetings, but Kohlschreiber is dangerous as is evidenced by the fact that he took Rafa to three tough sets in Toronto. In the other side of Roger’s bracket Davydenko and Ferrer will slug it out for a spot in the quarter finals.
Presser: They asked Roger about the trick again:
Q. Can I ask you about a serve that you didn’t make tonight, but that’s obviously being talked about a lot on the Internet. Is that for real?
ROGER FEDERER: Oh, that thing? Yeah. Well, there’s a lot of the debate at the moment, you know. You know how it is with magicians. They don’t tell how their tricks work, you know. (Smiling.)I don’t do it that much, but, yeah, it was shot in one piece and it was — the guy took a chance. (Smiling.) It worked out. I’m happy.
Q. Back to the video for a second, have you ever done anything like that before, knocked something off somebody’s head?
ROGER FEDERER: Um, well, I had to doit before so I knew I could do it, otherwise it wasrisky for him, right? But no — what was the – what did you mean exactly?
Q. Knocking the thing off the guy’shead.
ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, it worked out. I’ve done it before.
Q. So it was definitely real?
ROGER FEDERER: Not saying that. A magician doesn’t tell how his tricks work, so…(Laughter.)
Pretty obvious to me from that it’s not real, although I’m sure he could do it.
